At Dianna Rae Jewelry, we enjoy sharing the love stories of our customers because your story is our story. Read Drew and Shelbie’s story — from their long-time friendship, to the beautiful proposal in San Francisco, and the custom engagement ring.
Drew and I have known each other for about 10 years now. Drew actually worked for my dad for several years so we have been knowing each other since I was in high school. My mom was the one who set us up believe it or not. She worked her magic and was the reason we started talking in the first place! We instantly connected and it felt super natural once we started dating. Now, over four years later here we are preparing for our wedding!
Drew planned this big trip to San Francisco last summer to celebrate me finishing college. It was super special because it was just us two going for a week! Prior to us leaving Drew told me to bring nice clothes because he wanted to take me to a nice dinner in the city. He didn’t tell me any other details such as the restaurant we were eating at or when we were going. So, in natural Drew fashion he waits until the day of the proposal to only tell me “we have dinner reservations at 9 tonight and we are taking pictures at sunset for 8”. That was it! He refused to tell me where we were eating and where we were taking pictures. The whole day I was so anxious because I had a feeling he was going to propose, but I just didn’t know where! He also tricked me into thinking we were taking these beautiful pictures on our GoPro. Needless to say, I was beyond surprised when we finally arrived to Sutro Baths in San Francisco with the most breathtaking view of the ocean! Sutro Baths was a former salt water pool right by the ocean that burned down years ago. Now, it sets one of the most beautiful backgrounds for pictures, especially a proposal! So, Drew tells me we are taking the pictures right by the beach and we walk down so he can set up the GoPro. At this point I knew it was happening but I was still confused on how he would be taking the pictures with the GoPro. As he sets up the GoPro and we walk to the middle of the concrete platform he takes my hands and I instantly knew he was proposing! Amongst all the emotions and excitement Drew tells me to wave at the TWO photographers he hired to capture the moment! The GoPro though, was set up to record the proposal for all of our loved ones to see after! Drew completely exceeded any expectations I had for this moment! We spent the next week celebrating just the two of us in such an amazing city!
Drew and I designed the ring together about a year ago. I really wanted something unique and vintage that I would love for the rest of my life! I have always wanted an oval shaped diamond, and so I decided the Daisy setting was a perfect fit to go with it! I decided on a simple pippin band to go with it because I didn’t want to take away from the intricate details of the setting. We designed it on the computer at Dianna Rae and then had it 3D printed and a diamond placed to make sure I loved it. So, I knew exactly what it was going to look like but I had never seen it in person until the proposal. It was even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined!
